Project 3: Study Sketches
As I drew, features of the eagle that stood out to me were the spiky feathers on the head, the fierce eye and shadows surrounding it, the sharp protruding beak, and the large wingspan and long feathers in the wingtips

I skeched the outline and then traced it with a fine black pen and filled it in with a brush pen.

Experimenting with our friends RGB and also adding some movement to the composition. Note: The colors did not look very good on the blog I had to go back and redo the colors in PS selecting the check box 'only web colors' in the color palette.

Same process as Illustration 1. (You can see a magazine showing through the paper because my scanner wasn't targeting the image properly so I had to add a background).

Black fill layer in PS. As a side note: Orginally these were going to be 2 different compositions but when I finshed I realized they work well together.

White fill layer on black background. I got this idea when using the Refine Edges tool and I really like it, I think it works well.

I really tried to simplify it from the original drawing using straighter lines and making the shapes less complex. I didn't realize the beak would overlap the wing until I was past the point of no return, but I think it works.

Erased most of the original drawing and outlined with black pen and filled in with black brush pen.

I decided not to include the eye, trying to use as few of the original elements as possible.

Project 2a: Expressive Type and Design
Select a typeface that is expressive of each of the following words and manipulate the typeface to further enhance the meaning of the word. Typeface names from top to bottom and left to right: Bleeding Cowboys, Cold Night for Aligators, Big Fat Ugly Cow, Sludge Bucket, El&Font Gothic, Destruccion, and Circus Ornate.
Project 2a Composition: Sludge
For this composition I used the typeface 'Cold Night for Alligators.' The concept was a symmetrical balance with the most emphasis on the type in the center. Dilluted ink splatter adds texture and depth. Contrast was improved in Photoshop.
Project 2a Composition: Crush
For this composition I used the typeface 'Destruccion.' The concept was an asymmetrical balance with a large negative space crushing a small positve one.
